Last weekend was rather sunny and cold and this cold weather persisted till Thursday when milder air arrived. Yesterdays highs were near 10 degrees, but it was cloudy, windy and wet as well. Today skies are much brighter and from tonight on cold air will spread over the country. Tomorrows highs will be just above freezing!

The last 10 days were rather boring with grey skies most of the time and hardly any precipitation. It was rather cold and yesterday morning icy roads caused many traffic accidents. Today the weather turned mostly clear at last!

The last days of 2005 were wintry with snow and freezing temperatures. From December 26th on many snow showers passed the country, mainly in coastal areas. Locally more than 10 cm of snow cover was measured. On December 30 an active front caused heavy snow in many places of the country. Combined with strong southeast winds blizzard like conditions occured and the Dutch Met. Office issued a weather alert. Later on the day snow went over in sleet and freezing rain, but not many accidents occured. I stayed at my parents place where snow arrived late in the evening and overnight. I shot several photos of which some can be seen in my winter 2005 collection. Towards New Year thaw conquered the country.
December 2005 had an about normal average temperature. It was a sunny month with below average precipitation. The year 2005 as a whole got ranked 6th of the warmest years ever recorded in the Netherlands. The amount of precipitation was near normal, but the amount of sunshine was amongst the highest ever recorded in our country!
2006 started of with grey skies and above freezing temperatures, but today skies are clearing. It will likely get colder again during the next few days.
