January 31 2003:
Last tuesday an active squall line crossed the southern half of the country. Up to 1500 lightningstrikes in just 2 hours were detected and lots of graupel fell. In Soest things got covered with a 2 cm layer of soft hail.
Wednesday again wintry showers, but yesterday it started snowing everywhere. Most snow fell in the east and southwest of the country (up to 8 cm).
Last night moderate frost and today mostly dry with sunny spells.
January 25 2003:
Some light frost in many places friday morning with lows down to -4.
Tomorrow evening subtropic air will conquer the country with temperatures up to 12°C!

Thaw has conquered The Netherlands. After a long period with cold winter weather, temperatures rose to well above normal. Last night there was some freezing rain and snow in the southeast.

Winter weather in the Netherlands! Yesterday some light snow at many places, but today most places got about 0,5 - 3 cm snow covering the ground.
Last night was very cold. My thermometer measured -6,3°C, but some official stations (like Soesterberg) went down to -9!
The whole week ahead remains wintry with some strong frost.
January 3 2003:
Added new Photo of the Month. (only at the introduction page for now)
December 2002 was cold and wet.
I stayed at my parents place from December 28th till New Year's Day. On December 30th and 31st it snowed a bit.
2002 overall was very warm and wet in The Netherlands.
The new year started with high temperatures and lots of rain. There is danger of flooding in the south. An active low caused some high winds yesterday evening, especially in the south.
Today it started snowing in the north.
Still no webspace available for new pictures...
