August 27 2005:
Heavy polar air-mass thunderstorms last Thursday evening! They were most active in western and northern provinces, but my hometown Soest got it's share as well. So finally I was able to shoot some lightning, and some photos came out quite good!

August 17 2005:
The last 18 days have been exceptionally cold in the Netherlands. The highest high temperature in De Bilt during this period was only 21,9 degrees on August 16th, which is the lowest compared with similar periods from 1901 on.
Last Friday very strong showers and thunderstorms caused floodings in western and central parts of the country. Near Rotterdam hail up the size of 3 cm came down and a tornado caused damage as well. Near Hook of Holland waterspouts were observed.

Today, Dutch summer returned for a couple of days. Most locations saw blue skies and in the south 25 degrees was measured again, the first time since July 29th.

August 8 2005:
The first week of August was gloomy and had temperatures well below normal. On most days highs were below 20°C. Also strong winds and plenty of showers, sometimes thundery and/or with soft-hail. Last weekend a true spout-outbreak occured over Lake IJsselmeer. Yesterday another large funnel was seen in the north of the country.

I created a webpage showing a colletion of my photographs other than just weather pictures. They can be seen here!

August 3 2005:
Chased a couple of rainy storms today. Unfortunately, storms weren't that photogenic.

August 1 2005:
Added a new Photo of the Month
According to the Royal Dutch Met. Office (KNMI), July 2005 had a near normal temperature, was dull and very wet. Most locations doubled the normal amount of rain, locally more than 200 mm came down.
During the first August week things should dry up a bit, but a long period with settled summer weather seems unlikely.
